Chapman Taylor Director: I expect WUF13 to spark a lively debate about global urban development

Marcelina Zielinska, Group Board Director at the UK-based urban planning and architecture firm Chapman Taylor, has said that she would attend a series of panel sessions during the upcoming 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), scheduled to take place in Baku on May 17-22.

In an interview with AZERTAC, Marcelina Zielinska shared her expectations for WUF13 this year and pointed out key challenges facing cities of the future.

“This year’s WUF will focus on housing as a central element of global action. Rapid population growth in developing countries is driving a significant demand for new development, which must be delivered both quickly and cost-effectively. Meanwhile, developed countries are investing in expensive solutions to protect the environment, while developing nations often struggle to attract the necessary expertise and investment. I expect WUF 13 to spark a lively debate about the future direction of development,” Zielinska noted.

She emphasized that platforms such as WUF 13 bring stakeholders together, enabling dialogue and the exchange of experience, adding that these discussions can help shape solutions that deliver a better future for both people and the planet.

“Every debate is a learning opportunity. When people from all over the world come to Baku to share their knowledge, experiences, and the challenges their countries face, it generates a wealth of new ideas for tackling domestic issues. However, what is most important for Azerbaijan is to be seen as a leader in global action and a forward-thinking country investing in new technologies. WUF13 will help demonstrate how much has already been achieved in this respect,” Marcelina Zielinska mentioned.
