President of UN-Habitat Assembly: Strengthening international cooperation in building sustainable cities is of special importance
“We should not limit ourselves to delivering only global messages. We must implement a new urban development agenda on the ground and achieve tangible results. This requires coordinated action at both national and local levels,” said Nga Kor Ming, President of the UN-Habitat Assembly and Malaysia’s Minister of Housing and Local Government, during his speech at the Ministerial Meeting on the New Urban Agenda held within the framework of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The Minister noted that the next decade is of particular importance for the successful implementation of urbanization policies. He stressed that during this period, high-level meetings, new initiatives, and concrete action plans will be among the key priorities.
The President of the UN-Habitat Assembly emphasized that the Assembly, as the highest decision-making platform in the field of urban development, provides strategic direction to the process and offers guidance to member states.
Nga Kor Ming added that the creation of sustainable cities remains one of the main directions of global development, stressing that strengthening international cooperation in this area is of special importance.
